Therapeutic Theater
Talk back from Mia Smith’s Acceptance
Therapeutic Theatre is a technique in drama therapy that engages people in creating a play around a central issue or theme. This process is the intentional use of creating a performance to address psychological, physical, and social concerns to promote health and wellbeing. It gives individuals an opportunity to step inside of specific roles and create storylines that they want to explore. Therapeutic theatre helps people explore, channel, and practice new ways of expressing oneself through a safe and contained process. Being witnessed in the final performance with a live audience helps people to feel empowered and in control of their story.
